Recall relates to more than 167,500 vehicles of Escape and C-Max hybrid models and caused by two important safety issues reported.
Vehicles manufactured in 2013 and 2014 model years are affected. Most of the Ford Escape vehicles have both problems at the same time.
The first problem is reported in both Escape and C-Max models. A software bug in the car computer can prevent side curtain air bags from engaging in some types of motor vehicle accidents, particularly rollover crashes. Ford says there hasn’t been any reports of crashes or injuries filed.
Resolution: Ford dealerships will reprogram the computer free of charge.
The second issue met in Escapes only. Exterior door handles can bind and prevent doors from latching. This could allow doors to open in motion which is extremely dangerous. No crashes or injuries have been reported either.
Resolution: Dealers to inspect the vehicles and reposition handles them if required.
